Systems and Network Operations (SNO)

Our Mission

The Mission of Systems and Network Operations (SNO) is to provide a reliable and secure infrastructure for computing, networking and communications in a proactive and cost-effective manner in support of the institution’s teaching, research, and service missions. SNO’s responsibilities include maintaining the transport network infrastructure and supporting equipment to provide seamless and high-quality connectivity for voice, video, data and electronic messaging connectivity. Additionally, SNO is responsible for maintaining the Central Computing Facility (CCF) and Disaster Recovery and Operations Center (DROC). These secure and environmentally controlled facilities house equipment supporting most of the institution’s enterprise administrative systems and mission critical data, as well as many departmental servers.

Our energies are focused on:

• Supporting the Local Area Network for sharing data locally
• Supporting the Wide Area Network for sharing data with other organizations
• Maintaining public internet access for collaboration and communication
• Enhancing wireless access to provide more convenient, yet secure, access to campus services
• Providing appropriate network perimeter security to help protect institutional data
• Maintaining the PBX and other telephone equipment to ensure reliable voice communications
• Providing a robust e-mail infrastructure - a mission critical communication application
• Improving the Virtual Private Network to provide convenient and secure remote access to networked services
• Enhancing the efficiency of data storage and recovery through expanding the use of Storage Area Network (SAN) technology
• Maintaining the physical and logical security of the CCF and DROC
• Maintaining a secure computing facility for departments to contract server management to SNO
