SafeBoot Encryption


SafeBoot Encryption is a security solution to protect the data on your laptop.

Description: SafeBoot is encryption software for your laptop and is required by the University for institutionally owned Windows laptops with confidential information stored on them and all Windows laptops purchased after July 15, 2007. Requirements: Must posses a University owned Windows laptop.

Restrictions: SafeBoot cannot be installed on a MAC or Linux laptop.

Time Constraints: None

Turn Around Time: Once all information is received:

  • SafeBoot can be installed by the Information Management Client Support Services (IMCSS) Helpdesk, rm. 416.L, or
  • The primary user can wait for IMCSS End User Support division to contact them to make arrangements to have SafeBoot installed
  • Contact by End User Support will be made within five business days

Cost: $55.00 for the license and maintenance for four years per laptop

Request Instructions: 

  • Submit a Service Request Form.
  • You must select “ENC:Software-Encryption-Setup” as the request type; this will prompt the submitter for the required information. 
  • All users listed on the request must be registered in the UT Health Science Center password reset system. Once all information is received, Enterprise Services will send the primary user an e-mail with options for having SafeBoot installed.
  • If you are purchasing a new laptop, you must submit the Service Request Form for the SafeBoot license and provide the service request number to Purchasing on the requisition. 
  • Please note “new purchase” in the fields for which you do not have the information.
