Respondus is a test bank software that allows instructors to create, bank and manage test items, and then print them to either paper or import directly into a Blackboard course. Check www.respondus.com.

SoftChalk logo SoftChalk

SoftChalk is a free HTML authoring software that allows instructors to translate course materials from MS Word into HTML (the language of the Internet), create attractive web pages, and package the materials for publication via a web page or a Bb course. SoftChalk includes interactive learning activities such as self-tests, quizzes, drag and drop labeling, pop-up notations, and completion certificates, and has a digital repository and tracking system. Turning Point logo Turning Point and Turning Point Anywhere Audience Response System (clickers)

"TurningPoint audience response system integrates into Microsoft® PowerPoint® and allows audiences and students to participate in PC presentations or lectures by submitting responses to interactive questions using a ResponseCard™ keypad or other hand-held/computer device". Turning Point Anywhere is a similar product for Mac Users that allows for responses to questions projected in Word. The keypads, or Clickers, are checked out for use. Best Practices in Video Conference

Our campus supports over 8000 hours of videoconferencing every year. The Online and Blended Learning Team created a BB, self-paced, online class in Best Practices in VideoConferencing. Additionally, we offer a free, face to face workshop in VideoConferencing every semester, and additionally offer a customized workshop by special appointment for a fee. Sonic Foundry (Mediasite)

This service is a form of video streamning which captures faculty lectures. These lectures can be added to a Blackboard course or website. (Click here to view videos created with Sonic Foundry.) Please contact John Garcia for more information. Request form.

Video Streaming

This service provides hosting for streaming videos. For example, lectures are hosted and streamed from the video streaming server. A link to the lecture video can then be added to a course within Blackboard or a website. Please contact John Garcia for more information. Request form.

Instructional Design

Instructional design is the process by which instruction is improved through the analysis of learning needs and systematic development of learning materials. Instructional designers often use technology and multimedia as tools to enhance instruction.

The Online and Blended Learning team can:
  • Provide team-based leadership and project management for the instructional design and development process
  • Work in collaboration with faculty members in the design, development and delivery of educational materials in an innovative manner
  • The instructional designer will evaluate, select, and integrate technologies, including web-based applications and digital media, into instructional systems focusing on asynchronous teaching and learning

There is no fee for consultations, OBL provides up to four (4) hours of instructional design for each official course at the Health Science Center at no charge.
