Our Mission

Information Management & Services (IMS) provides leadership in technology and information based resources and services for UT Health San Antonio. UTHSA-IT incorporates customer input to establish policies and standards while providing oversight, advocacy and solutions to support the institution in pursuit of its missions. UTHSA-IT will also serve as the primary institutional representative to The University of Texas System and state agencies with regard to information technology and information resources

  • Business Systems Services

    Business Systems Services provides maintenance of day-to-day operations of enterprise administrative systems which serve faculty, students, and staff. The services and expertise include Database Administration, Enterprise System Maintenance and Production Support, Application Access Management, Application Security Management, Accounts Management, Reporting and Analytics, and Integration Services.

  • Information Security (InfoSec)

    The Information Security Office safeguards UT Health San Antonio’s digital environment through proactive cybersecurity measures, policy enforcement, and community education. The team works to protect institutional data, ensure regulatory compliance, and reduce risk across research, clinical, academic, and administrative systems. From secure password management and phishing prevention to data privacy and incident response, Information Security partners with the campus community to promote a culture of security and responsible technology use.

  • Information Technology Service Management (ITSM)

    Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) provides hardware and software incident support and performs service configuration requests for Information Resources and computing devices owned, leased or under the control of the Health Science Center. ITSM is the Custodian for all Computing Devices unless explicitly assigned to an alternate Department or User by the Information Resource Owner. ITSM includes a centralized Service Desk, provides hardware support and sales for PC, Apple/MAC desktops, laptops, tablets, and peripherals.

  • IT Architect Solution and Partnership (Design)

    The Architecture team is responsible for guiding technology decisions before new software, vendors, or solutions are selected or built. The team leads early planning, supports RFPs and vendor evaluations, and ensures designs meet enterprise standards for security, resiliency, scalability, and long-term support. Architecture partners with other IT teams to define what should be built and why, reducing operational risk and preventing unsupported while ensuring alignment with enterprise IT platforms.

  • IT Engineering (Build)

    The Engineering team is responsible for building and delivering IT platforms and services based on approved designs, as well as integrating new technologies and systems to enhance existing infrastructure. This includes application hosting, virtual servers, cloud and on-prem infrastructure, secure storage, and scalable data platforms. The team supports research computing needs such as high-performance computing (HPC), large data transfers, and secure data sharing. Engineering also provides IT billing and cost reports in PowerBI to support transparency, IT resources usage and budget planning. Integration efforts ensure that different systems and platforms work together seamlessly to meet organizational requirements and support evolving business needs. Engineering owns how solutions are built, integrated, and deployed, not day-to-day operations.

  • IT Operations (Run)

    The Operations team is responsible for running and maintaining supported systems once they are live in production. Services include system and service monitoring, backup and recovery, data center hosting and operations, IMS standard operating system (OS) security patching, planned OS upgrades, and IT infrastructure incident response. Operations owns system stability and availability, ensuring services remain reliable, compliant, and supported over time.

  • IT Partners (When you are not sure who to contact)

    IT Partners act as the UT Health San Antonio IT service ambassador to promote IMS as a strategic partner and to deliver impact to the department through knowledge of departmental operation and understanding the unique business needs of the department’s clinicians, faculty, staff and students.  Partners articulate which IT services may advance unit performance,  support business case development for PPMD IT projects, guide the department through the technology acquisition process (TAP) and promote continuous improvement.

  • Network and Unified Communications

    To architect, operate, and secure a resilient, scalable, and high-availability network infrastructure in support of academic instruction, research computing, institutional and clinical operations. Services include wired and wireless networks (Wi-Fi), application load balancer, phones, call centers, WebEx, cabling, and the design and build-out of network infrastructure for new buildings, clinics, and campus expansions. The team ensures secure, high-availability connectivity for people, devices, and applications.

  • Project Portfolio Management and Delivery

    This service offers project leadership and support to Health Science Center organizations desiring to launch and execute initiatives to improve ​processes and/or implement new processes involving technology. The project delivery service provides the requesting organization support in the following areas: Process and Systems Analysis, Project Management, Software Configuration and Development, Enterprise Business Systems Training and Development, User Acceptance Testing Management and Facilitation, Organizational Change Management and Communications to transition from implementation to sustainment.

  • IMS Business Office

    The Information Management & Services (IMS) Business Office (BO) is the Financial Service Center (FSC) for IT. It manages the financial operations and provides oversight for the financial and administrative processes for IMS. The BO is charged with the responsibility affecting: Financial transactions (accounting), billing (IDT Files), Financial Management (reporting), budget and research, and process improvement. The BO is also charged with the responsibility of Access Control Executive for IMS and acts as the Executive Committee representative in matters of financial and administrative nature.
